Beyond these, we appear at town festivals, cultural events and workshops throughout the year. Exact dates for each edition are agreed with the organiser and announced on Instagram. For a new event, the earlier you write, the more room we have to fit it in.

June 1343. James III loses the kingdom to Peter IV of Aragon: defeated at Peguera, his subjects have surrendered the city and the castles of Alaró, Santueri and Pollença. As the deposed king sails for Roussillon, a small band of loyalists holds the mountain passes and ambushes the Aragonese troops.

Six years after being dispossessed, the rightful king of Mallorca returns to Pollença. He recalls the landing at Peguera he could not stop and the surrender of the castles of Alaró, Santueri and Pollença — but also the resistance he put up — and summons his loyalists to begin the reconquest.

The invading army has beaten King James III’s troops in open battle, set course for the city of Mallorca and spread across the rest of the island to take it. It will not be easy: a call goes out for men-at-arms to garrison the castle and hold the position.

A reenactment of the castle’s first siege, in 1343, an episode in the quarrel between James III of Mallorca and Peter IV of Aragon. Nicolau Marí, castellan of Bellver, receives Bernat Sord, envoy of King Peter. The two agree to settle the siege the old way: a fight between champions will decide it.

Q01 Who are you?
Milites Maioricarum is a medieval historical reenactment group from Mallorca, founded in 2016. We recreate the island’s civil, military and cultural life between the 12th and 15th centuries, with documented dress, arms and crafts. We perform at medieval fairs and markets, town festivals, cultural events and schools across Mallorca.
Q02 What do you offer town councils and organisers?
We offer five kinds of activity, bookable separately or combined into a single programme:
Street parade — a procession through the streets with banners, drum and period dress, to open a fair or accompany an event.
Duels and dress — historical combat with reproduction arms, and a talk on 12th–15th-century dress in front of the audience.
Workshops and outreach — medieval craft workshops, talks, displays of arms and clothing, and an open encampment people can visit all day.
Theatre — our own stage production in a medieval setting, made for squares, cloisters and courtyards.
Short films — films directed, edited and acted by the group. We make them for the love of it, but they also promote: we can shoot a teaser of our performance announcing your fair or medieval market ahead of the date, which is yours to keep as publicity material.
We adapt length and format to each organiser’s space and budget.
Q03 How do we book a performance?
Write to us at milites.maioricarum@gmail.com or send us a direct message on Instagram. It helps a great deal to know the town, the date or weekend you have in mind, the space where the activity would take place and what kind of performance you are after. From there we propose a programme and the specific terms. As a non-profit association, the fee we ask covers travel, set-up and upkeep of the equipment.
Q04 Where do you perform, and where are you based?
We are based in Mallorca and perform across the island — among other places in Capdepera, Alcúdia, Palma, Inca and Palmanyola, at castles and town walls as well as in the squares and streets of historic centres. You can see every location on the map.
Q05 Which historical period do you recreate?
The 12th to 15th centuries: the era of the 1229 conquest and of the Kingdom of Mallorca. We work on the military side — mail hauberks, helms, swords, shields and combat tactics — as much as the civil one: clothing, crafts, encampment and daily life. We do not do fantasy or generic medievalism; every piece is based on documentary or iconographic sources from the period.
Q06 What is your legal status?
We are a non-profit cultural association, incorporated under Spain’s Ley Orgánica 1/2002 of 22 March, the statute governing the right of association. Everything we take in goes back into equipment, clothing and the group’s activities.
Q07 Can I join the group?
Yes. No previous experience is needed — what matters is an interest in the Middle Ages and the wish to take part. If you would like to join, write to us and we will explain how it works.
